Apple Crates

At first I wasn’t sure what the big deal was with apple crate. At least not as furniture. But the more I looked on Pintrest the more I wanted a table made from apple crates. This is a simple project. If you read my previous post when I decorated my front room you will see an apple crate table in there.

I just went to Joann’s to buy my apple crates. They also sell them at Lowes.

I bought a can of rustomic(S?) spray paint. This brand is a little bit more expensive but worth it.

I was told that I needed to shake the can for one minute for it to go on smoothly, yes one whole minute. Now one minute doesn’t seem like a long time until you have to shake a can of spray paint for that long.

I did two light coats. With spray paint you want to do two to three light coats so that it doesn’t run. If you try to do a thick coat it will end up running, believe me I have got a little impatient on a few projects.

I decided to put a cute little plate over the center. But I’ve seen some cute ones with rock and bamboo in the middle too.

After I got done with my table my sister in law wanted help making cute little nightstand for her kids out of apple crate. Actually she is the one the gave me the idea in the first place. We were supposed to do it together but I was impatient and did it with my mom. So I thought I should make sure to help her the following day. So she wouldn’t walk into my house and see that I did them without her. But it worked out cause we were able to focus on her eight crates.

These crate were going to be a little different with the fun bright colors. She let all her kids pick out a fun color. 

One of the night stands was going to be sparkly for her daughter. Well that didn’t turn out too well as we used a whole can on one side and sparkles were everywhere. I think it was meant to go over a solid color. 

Her kids loved them. We ended up not securing them together as her kids could pick the way they wanted to set them up and also change it if they wanted.
